MUDBOY Brushless Blaster
The Mjolnir designed by Project CRAP(Cross-the-Rough-Atlantic-Project) is a Nerf Blaster designed too use half length darts, brushless motors, a solenoid pusher, and an Arduino Nano as an onboard computer.
This one was customized by myself to use accommodate for different parts as well as multi-color printing with my name and logo on it.
Why Brushless Motors
Brushless motors unlike brushed motors have 3 inputs, power, direction, and ground, by using the PWM control coming out of an Arduino Nano and a pair of Electronic Speed Controllers, the speed at which the dart comes out of the blaster can be easily controlled.
With only 1 set of motors the blaster would only shoot around 150 feet per second, for this blaster I was looking for 200+ FPS I decided to use 2 sets of motors requiring the use of a 4 in 1 ESC as shown below, in order to make it fit, it required the files to be modified to ensure it would be housed correctly and safely.
Solenoid.
A neutron solenoid was used here as the dart pusher, it allows for mods such as burst, full auto, semi auto, to be created. By changing the flow of electricity via a capacitor, the state of the solenoid is adjusted either on or off, when on the actuator is fully extended pushing the dart into the wheels, when off the actuator returns to its original position.
An Arduino Nano function as the Brain of this blaster, allowing for the changing of fire modes, FPS, even the time it takes for the motors to speed up.
